China Calls on U.S. to Adopt “Peaceful Coexistence” for Stable Relations
In a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang conveyed to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that China hopes the United States adopts an “objective, rational, pragmatic attitude” toward its rising global partner.
Wang and Rubio met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the first time since Rubio’s appointment last January, attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers’ gathering.
During their discussions, the two officials exchanged views on bilateral ties and mutual concerns, seeking to bridge divides amid ongoing tensions.
Wang reiterated China’s “principled positions” on enhancing China-US relations, urging that the significant agreements between the two presidents be translated into tangible policies and practical steps.
He stressed that US policy toward China must prioritize “peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation,” insisting America should engage China in a spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
The meeting was described as “positive, pragmatical and constructive,” with both sides agreeing to bolster diplomatic communication and dialogue at every level. “Wang and Rubio agreed to strengthen diplomatic channels and communication and dialogue at all levels in all fields, give full play to the role of diplomatic departments in promoting bilateral relations, and explore ways to expand areas of cooperation while managing differences,” the statement concluded.
