China Slams Japan for Supplying Naval Vessels to Philippines
Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China’s Defense Ministry, accused Japan of persistently exporting military hardware abroad to form exclusive alliances aimed at destabilizing the Asia-Pacific region.
"In recent years, Japan has continuously exported weapons and equipment abroad in an attempt to form small cliques to disrupt the South China Sea and create instability in the Asia-Pacific region," Jiang said.
His remarks came in response to Japan’s plan to deliver six used Abukuma-class destroyers to the Philippine Navy.
Jiang emphasized that any defense cooperation among nations should avoid targeting or harming the interests of other parties.
"China has always maintained that defense and security cooperation between relevant countries should not target or harm the interests of third parties," he stated.
Recalling the legacy of World War II, Jiang condemned Japan’s militaristic past, highlighting its history of aggression and colonization in the region.
"Japanese militarism committed aggression and colonial rule against neighboring countries, including China and the Philippines, and occupied islands in the South China Sea, bearing grave historical responsibility."
Meanwhile, the Philippines has officially acknowledged Japan’s transfer of naval vessels as part of its efforts to bolster maritime deterrence and defense capabilities.
This development follows a recent defense agreement between Japan and the Philippines, permitting Japanese forces to take part in joint military exercises on Philippine territory—a historic first in their bilateral relations.
